Good evening everyone
After having a talk with the SRO team, ElitesPvP Admin and Gmods and some users, we have decided to implement a new rule for the Advertising Board
From today onward, Server NEED to have a Virustotal client and exes scanned by Virustotal This is to enforce a infection free community.
It is mandatory to include a VirusTotal scan of the following files upon release of your thread:
Why a scan?
Recently, we have had a big influx on reports regarding virus infections on several servers, most of them with the owners not being aware of it entirely
Because of this, a virustotal scan will ensure the server owners are VERY aware of what goes on their client and eliminates the "I didn't know" factor of the reports
Clean Client
We get messages as well asking us to provide a clean client since theirs is infected. We will be releasing a client soon. This client has been scanned entirely and we cant find any major infections, with the rest being False Positives
What are we dealing with?
Right now, only 1 infection in particular bothers us: Jeefo
This malware works as a trojan that infects your exes, dlls and spreads itself to other computers via other exe sharing
There are other infections, yes. But the most common one is Jeefo, so we keep an eye on those. Our mod team either use a Linux VM or natively runs Linux on their PC, so we are pretty safe from these infections.
What do we advice users?
Many users like to spend $0 on a server yet ask for donations. If you want to run a server and have the means to do it, use legit software. The amount of pirated Filters, cracked bots and such gathered from suspicious sites end up being the main reason why people get infected with malware. However, we cant force users to buy filters, bots and such. That's why we ENFORCE adding a virustotal link
We also recommend users from the site to scan ALL files you download from a server. We as mods try to do this as much as we can, but we can miss a server or two. Some help from the users would be much appreciated and will ensure a safer environment
That's all for now
